A little more about the music…
- Ravel celebrated his 53rd birthday while visiting America in 1928, with a party also attended by George Gershwin. Ravel’s respect for Gershwin is audible in the Concerto, which summons the jazzy sounds of Rhapsody in Blue.
- The best-known tune from Porgy and Bess, “Summertime” has been recorded more than 25,000 times by artists of almost every genre.
