Elizabeth Sotelo

Called the future of Jazz by the Amarillo Tribune, Elizabeth Sotelo is the newest member of the trumpet section at Orchestra Nova Northwest. She is a dynamic performer and composer with experience in a large range of musical ensembles freelancing in the Portland Area.

Elizabeth was born in the rural community of Greenwood, Texas near the Midland-Odessa metro area where she began studying trumpet at ten years old. After attending a free concert held by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Elizabeth developed a strong passion for music. She studied Trumpet Performance at West Texas A&M University for both her BM and MM with Bill Takacs and during that time performed extensively with The Amarillo Symphony as a substitute section player and assistant principal. During her studies she also performed

with the Amarillo Little Theater, the West Texas A&M Theater Department, and the Amarillo College Theater Department on shows including Legally Blonde: The Musical, Dreamgirls, Heathers, Sweeney Todd, and Spamalot! Elizabeth has been featured as a soloist with the West Texas A&M

University Symphonic Band, The Amarillo Jazz Society Big Band, The Jazz Ensembles at West Texas A&M University, The Brass Project Brass Choir, and the West Texas A&M University Brass Choir. Her jazz quartet has been prominently featured in Panhandle Pride and Panhandle Pride History celebrations. 

Since moving to the Pacific Northwest she has worked as a freelancing musician and performed with different ensembles including The Vancouver Symphony, and Unbound Symphony. Outside of music, Elizabeth enjoys roller skating and is a member of the Rose City Rollers Roller Derby League.
