Geoffrey Hamlyn

Geoffrey Hamlyn is a violist based in Portland, Oregon, where he has lived since 2021. He studied at the Juilliard School with Heidi Castleman and the University of Texas with Roger Myers. His festival appearances include Sarasota, Taos, Music Academy of the West, and Prussia Cove. He is also a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
Beyond music, Geoffrey has built a career in nonprofit leadership and business management. He has served as Chief Operating Officer of a national consulting firm, Executive Director of a nonprofit organization, and as a leader on several nonprofit boards. He holds a Master of Public Policy from Duke University and currently serves as a Strategic Advisor to Trepwise, a strategy consulting firm.
Originally from El Paso, Texas, Geoffrey grew up in a family of musicians. He met his husband, Stephen, while they were both studying at Juilliard more than 20 years ago. Family remains at the center of his life, and when he isn’t working or playing viola, Geoffrey can often be found gardening or exploring Portland with his beloved rough collie, Leia.
